After graduating from the Chicago Founder Institute, Christopher Ross (Founder, FotoJelly - a photo sharing platform that simplifies image sharing amongst friends and family) went out on a limb and decided to develop his first app for the Windows Phone marketplace. Intrigued by his decision to forgo iOS and Android, Todd Bishop of GeekWire interviewed Christopher for the article “Why this app maker targeted Windows Phone first, and what happened after that”.

So what inspired Christopher Ross to develop for Microsoft? First of all, he was familiar with the platform. After working at Microsoft for several years prior to launching FotoJelly, Christopher wanted to develop on a platform and to devices he was well versed with. He also wanted to take advantage of the amenities of the Microsoft BizSpark program, which FotoJelly is an alumni of in addition to the Founder Institute.

Lastly, acknowledging the novelty of the Windows platform, Christopher jumped at the opportunity to be a ‘big fish in a little pond’, and is betting on the chance that once FotoJelly gains some traction in the Windows sphere, the app will have a better chance in the iOS and Android marketplaces.

Although FotoJelly has gotten some raised eyebrows from investors for going after what's currently less than 5% of the app market, they are continuing to fund raise and develop the product.
