Each year, The Founder Institute helps launch dozens of technology companies across the globe. Once founders graduate from our 4-month program, they quickly begin using techniques like crowdfunding campaigns to drum up interest and obtain funding.
To help further their efforts, we’ve introduced the series, “Crowdfunding Pick of The Week,” designed to showcase the most promising Founder Institute Graduates in our community. Stay tuned, you may discover the next BIG product, application, or software.
StoryHome, a new way to connect kids, grandparents and the entire family with amazing stories, was just an idea at IDEO Make-a-thon in Munich, the leading innovation consultancy. Founder David Lees, a graduate of the Munich Founder Institute and a storyteller who has built and sold two media companies, was part of the team that outlined the original idea, but was soon forgotten overtime. Months later, he reflected on the idea as he was losing personal connections with home.
Eventually, Lees applied to The Founder Institute and met Thomas Pannek and Daniel Neumann. Thomas is an audiophile, bass guitar player and expert at building large backend software systems. Daniel is a techie, father of two and former CTO. Together they formed the founding team of StoryHome.
StoryHome allows you or your family to be there at the bedtime of your kids wherever you are in the world. It is built for your family to record play and keep your audio stories. Your grandparents and kids will find it easy to use.

The team spoke to storytellers, family psychologists, performers and oral history experts about the power of stories and how to get the best stories out of people. Throughout their startup journey the company was selected as the finalist and the youngest company at Best of Munich. In addition, they graduated from the hardware.co accelerator in Berlin.
Today, Lees has a six-month-old boy. His son just saw his grandfather for the first time, as they are living 6 times zones apart. We’ve always told great stories, and StoryHome can make that happen again for many families.
