Over the past couple of years, gender discrepancies in the field of technology has been a hot topic of discussion for entrepreneurs and feminists alike. Initiatives to get more women involved have been implemented, arguments have been made, scholarships have been given, but what about the women who have already found success in this traditionally male-dominated field? Paul Watts, a Seattle FI Grad and Founder of Gatherball, is taking an alternative approach to the issue by producing the series “Life in Code”.

The series features stories of women working in the tech industry, highlighting how they became interested in tech and their path to success. “It’s not enough to say this (inequality in the tech industry) is bad,” says Watts, who recently started a Kickstarter campaign to raise money for his film series.  The premise behind the project: he believes it’s important for people to hear stories about why and how women got into the industry, and what has inspired them along the way.

Watts is looking to raise $15k by May 29th in order to fund the remainder of the series. “I think it’s important because, if you ask anyone who’s hiring programmers right now, they’re hard to come by,” Watts said. “We need more of them and we need more diversity of opinion, which means better products that appeal to more people.”
