In the recent New York Business Journal article, “Payment platform Zipmark acquires accounting tool WorkingPoint”, Ben Fischer reports on the recent success of the Manhattan-based b-to-b startup Zipmark.

Zipmark and its COO Jacob Howerton are Graduates of the New York Founder Institute.

Founded in 2010 by Jay Bhattacharya and Jacob Howerton, Zipmark provides software for small firms to electronically bill each other and transfer money overnight. Zipmark’s recent acquisition will not only expand their existing electronic platform to the clients of WorkingPoint, it also means a business services software toolkit will become available to small employers.

WorkingPoint, a smaller West Coast startup whose focus has been providing tools for billing and accounting, was founded by Tom Proulx in 2009.

The resulting product suite will include an overall financial performance dashboard, inventory and expense management, invoicing, and tax reporting to effectively help small to medium businesses solve their financial and payment needs. To date, Zipmark has been backed by $3.5 million from Village Ventures, the Partnership Fund for New York City and Counter Venture Partners. Zipmark's successes have also been covered by Crain's New York, Forbes, and BroadwayWorld
