BBC News recently highlighted one of our Amsterdam Graduates, Peerby, in a short, yet informative video, "Sharing website helps people borrow instead of buy".
Peerby and its Founder Daan Weddepohl are Graduates of the Amsterdam Founder Institute.
Peerby is a Dutch-based company whose app connects people with the things they need through neighborhood borrowing. Instead of just posting your request, Peerby actively asks your 100 closest neighbors if they might have whatever item you’re looking for. Average response clocks in at around 30 minutes, making it an effective and easy way to exchange.
Connecting with your neighbors not only saves money, it’s time efficient, environmentally conscious, and a fun way to get to know those who live around you. According to Peerby’s research, 80% of the things we use, we only use once a month. Why let your things gather dust when you could lend them out and help your neighbors instead?
Peerby is gaining traction both in communities and with investors. Besides already boasting 15,000 users in Amsterdam alone, they recently received $2.1m USD in funding from foreign investors like XAnge, Techstars, and Sanoma. The $2.1m adds on to their previous total of $2.5m. Things are looking up for Peerby.
