Denver Founder Institute graduate, iGivefirst enables news readers to donate to important causes with the click of a button. Much like the ubiquitous share buttons, iGivefirst places a “Give button” at the top of online news stories with allowing readers to donate to causes like natural disasters and other crises.

Inspired by the Haitian earthquake in 2010, iGivefirst founder, Sharif Youssef felt compelled to aid affected victims, but wanted to have a better idea of where his money was going. Instead of giving to a large charity like the Red Cross, the Give button links to non-profits that relate to the page’s content and the user’s location. Hence, if you are reading a story about a family that lost their home, using the Give button enables concerned readers to help with that specific cause.

With a successful trial in Denver, Youssef now plans to tackle the country’s top 10 media sites: “What we’re doing today is we’re talking to the top media publishers in the United States,” Youssef said. “If we get one of the big guys signed on, the rest will jump on.”
