Hundreds of founders from around the world applied to the Waterloo FALL 2019 program and 11 startups survived the difficult four-month program including seven female founders.
The Female Founder Initiative, powered by Founder Institute, has a mission to increase female-founded companies in their global portfolio to 40% in 2020. Over 60% of the Waterloo cohort are female founders.
Globally, less than 3% of venture capital goes to female founders which is a number that the tech accelerator is looking to change drastically on a global scale through their Female Founder Fellowship which allows female founders to apply without any application costs and - if selected - any tuition costs.
The graduates will present for the first time before a live audience and are actively seeking to fundraise for their tech ventures. The bi-annual pitch event is popular with angel and venture capital investors looking to get the first look at potentially investing in the next billion-dollar unicorn company (or in Canada they are called a narwhal company) coming out of Waterloo.
The Toronto-Waterloo Innovation Corridor is among the fastest-growing tech-talent ecosystems on the planet and is ranked 15th among the best places to grow a startup globally in the Startup Genome 2019 report.
Sponsors for the Waterloo program include innovation hub Communitech, law firm Gowling WLG, accounting firm BDO, coworking space Workhaus, Google Developers and Rebels of Design.
Tickets can be purchased online to attend the live event or you can watch the live stream starting at 7 PM EST on Wednesday, January 29, 2020.
