Every great company starts the same way: one person, an unproven idea, and the quiet decision to begin. What happens next is what separates a passing thought from a world-changing startup, and few communities have watched that transformation happen more times than the Founder Institute.

This year, we're proud to introduce the FI50, our celebration of the 50 standout Founder Institute alumni companies that defined 2025 and 2026. These are startups that raised landmark rounds, earned major exits, and are quietly building the future across more than 100 countries. You can explore the full list at fi.co/50, but here we want to do something different: tell you a few of the stories behind the numbers, because every one of them began exactly where you might be standing right now.

From an Idea to a $1.2 Billion Valuation

When Rob Henning set out to build Esusu, the problem was deeply human: millions of renters pay on time every month, yet none of it counts toward their credit. Esusu changed that by reporting on-time rent payments to credit bureaus, and in December 2025, the company raised a $50M Series C at a $1.2 billion valuation, creating $46.9B in credit tradelines for renters along the way. It's the kind of outcome that reminds us why we do this work: a founder who saw an overlooked problem and refused to let it stay unsolved.

Esusu isn't alone. In Sydney, Evan Wong's legal-automation platform Checkbox raised a $23M Series A in early 2026 at a valuation above $100M. In Spain, José Manuel Roldán Marín grew Genially, an interactive content platform, to $26.9M in revenue and more than 10 million creators across 190+ countries. These are the milestones that headlines celebrate, but they all trace back to a first cohort, a first mentor session, a first pitch.

Fintech Founders Rewriting Access to Capital

Some of the most powerful FI50 stories come from founders determined to widen who gets access to money and opportunity. Kingsley Madu built Expedier, Canada's first Black-led, BIPOC-focused digital bank, now serving 20,000+ users. In Mexico, Mairon Sandoval's OneCarNow! raised an $86M Series A to give gig-economy workers the cars and financial services they need to earn a living, becoming the country's number-one profitable gig fleet.

And in San Diego, the Jeeva.AI team, made up of Gaurav Bhattacharya, Gautam Bhattacharya, and Saumya Bhatnagar, closed a $9M seed round backed by Marc Benioff and Jack Altman, proving that agentic AI built by first-time founders can attract the industry's most respected names. This is what a global startup accelerator community makes possible: capital and credibility flowing to founders who might never have been on an investor's radar otherwise.

Deep Tech, Defense, and the Founders Building Hard Things

Not every startup is software you can ship overnight. Some FI50 companies chose the harder, slower path of building physical technology, and it's paying off. Torrey Smith's Endiatx is developing swallowable robotic capsules ("PillBot") for GI imaging, raising a $12M Series A on the road to FDA clearance. Ty Audronis's Tempest Droneworx won a $2M U.S. Air Force contract and Best Speed Pitch at SXSW 2025. And in Malaysia, Jin Xi Cheong's drone company Aonic has been profitable since 2023, now generating $60M+ in annual revenue.

These founders remind us that ambition and patience aren't opposites. The best hardware startups are built by people willing to spend years on problems most others won't touch, exactly the kind of founder our structured curriculum and mentor network is designed to support.

Climate and Sustainability Startups Building a Greener Economy

A striking number of FI50 companies are tackling the planet's hardest problems. Ben Moore and Chris Rogers built Bubble Paper, a sustainable alternative to bubble wrap, into the fourth fastest-growing company in South Carolina. In Barcelona, Roni Gamzon's BioFluff launched plant-based fur alongside Stella McCartney at COP28. And Mustafa Momin's Palki Motors won the $1M Zayed Sustainability Prize, scaling affordable electric vehicles from 10 to 100 units a month so commercial drivers in Bangladesh can earn more while polluting less.

From BR Polen's recycling hubs in Brazil to Wattnow's AI energy management in Tunisia, these founders are proof that mission and momentum can grow together.

A Truly Global Founder Community

Perhaps the most inspiring thing about the FI50 isn't any single company. It's the map. This year's list spans Tokyo and Lagos, Sydney and São Paulo, Colombo and Cairo. Since 2009, Founder Institute alumni have collectively raised more than $2 billion and produced 200+ exits, supported by a network of 40,000+ mentors and 9,000+ graduates in over 200 cities.

That global reach matters because great founders are everywhere, but access to guidance, capital, and community historically has not been. The FI50 is what happens when you close that gap: a Nigerian ed-tech founder, a Finnish scientist, and a Silicon Valley engineer all building world-class companies from the same starting point.

Your Story Could Be Next

Here's the truth every FI50 founder knows: none of them felt ready on day one. Rob Henning wasn't a billion-dollar CEO when he started. Torrey Smith didn't have FDA clearance. They had an idea and the willingness to take the first real step, and a community that helped them take the second, third, and hundredth.

If you've been waiting for a sign that your idea is worth pursuing, let these 50 companies be it. Read every one of their stories at fi.co/50, explore what the Founder Institute program looks like, and when you're ready, apply to join a chapter near you. The next FI50 list is still being written, and it just might have your name on it.
