Doppelgames, a Graduate from the Los Angeles Founder Institute, recently secured seed funding from two firms with deep ties to Google - XG Ventures, a fund composed of four early Googlers, and TomorrowVentures LLC, whose roster of investors includes former Google CEO Eric Schmidt.
Doppelgames aims to build a series of mobile games where players earn points and compete based on interactions within the real world. Their first title, Hexcursion (currently in beta), is a smartphone-driven, location-based game in the style of "color war" where players and teams compete to color a map based on their real-world travels.
