The Internet of Things is a growing sector in Canada and the IoT613 conference is leading the way, which is being hosted in Ottawa from 24th-25th of September. A unique collaboration between the user experience (UX) and design communities, this hands-on conference will explore how IoT shapes our daily lives, businesses, and governments.
In the panel discussion on IoT Entrepreneurship, three of the five panelists are Founder Institute Montreal Graduates, which include:
1. Yanick Lavoie whom is the founder of Fiboband, which provides a tracing bracelet for kids and a mobile app for parents so they can know the exact location of their children.
2. Khalil Zahar whom is the founder of Hykso, a startup that helps combat sport coaches and athletes remove subjectivity from their assessments by using wearable sensors and custom algorithms. The company currently holds a partnership with Boxing Canada and has ties in the Broadcasting industry to put their technology on the screen during official fights.
3. Francois Poirier whom is the founder of Makerbloks, which are small, reactive building blocks that allow anyone to learn and build electronic circuits without any technical background.
The startup has several notable achievements thus far, having closed a successful crowdfunding campaign funded at 191%, and being the winner of Montreal TechCrunch Pitch-Off and the Fundica Funding Roadshow.
In addition, Yishel Khan, also a Founder Institute Montreal Graduate, will be speaking on “A Fresh Perspective on IOT”. She is the founder of DOT Inc., which uses a brain-sensing headband to quantitatively diagnose Attention Deficiency Hyperactivity Disorder in children. Based on the brainwave activity, a customized plan helps the child develop cognitive skills through interactive games.
The IoT613 conference looks set to show the next big wave in connected communication, and demonstrate the UX considerations, design challenges and the transformative technology that will make it all happen.
