Filip Tack, Co-Founder of Nomadesk and winner of the EBAN Award for "Most Successful Angel-Backed Company" in 2009, gave a great talk on Startup Financing at the Brussels Founder Institute last week. In the talk he describes the differences, benefits, and risks of all types of startup financing: including Family and Friends, Angel, VC, Bank credit, and PE fundraising.
My favorite part, however, is an amazing quote by Walter Bagehot (early editor of The Economist) which eloquently summarizes the challenge any startup faces in selling their new idea:
"One of the greatest pains to human nature is the pain of a new idea. It makes you think that after all, your favorite notions may be wrong, your firmest beliefs ill-founded... Naturally, therefore, common men hate a new idea, and are disposed more or less to ill-treat the original man who brings it."
