Whether we realize it or not, our exposure to video games has changed the way we look at problems and services. Utilizing game design in a product is a powerful tool to engage audiences, and as Gabe Zichermann describes in the video below, “is the only force that allows users to do something they didn’t know they wanted to do in a predictable way.”

Gabe is the author of "Game-Based Marketing" and "Gamification by Design," founder of gamification.co, chair of the Gamification Summit and Workshops, an advisor to many startups, and the leader of the New York Founder Institute.

Applications for the Spring 2012 New York Founder Institute are due on Saturday, February 4th. Click here to apply.

In this talk from the Founder Institute, Gabe discusses how to use game thinking and mechanics to engage audiences and solve problems. He explains gamification loops, the evolution of loyalty programs, designing efficient onboarding experiences, creating a user experience between anxiety and boredom to increase engagement, and aligning with a user's desire for mastery to create long-term advocates.
