As part of the Founder Institute’s series of free online startup events for entrepreneurs worldwide, we were pleased to host "How to Be a Better Angel Investor" featuring experienced angels from around the globe on February 10th for a live, interactive roundtable event.

Angel investors play a key role in helping startups to recruit a team, raise funding, generate traction, and ultimately grow their businesses. However, there are many cases where angels unfortunately produce little impact, or can even have a negative overall impact. Watch to hear from experienced entrepreneurs and angel investors who have supported dozens of businesses - across several continents, sectors, and stages - and learn their best practices for sourcing opportunities and providing value to startups - see the video below: 


Meet the Speakers


Lucia Cerchlan is a co-founder of Lumus Investment Collective, a global female angel investment club focusing on startups based in the CEE region. She is also the Head of Research at London based fintech startup Cuvva. Previously, Lucia worked at Slido (SaaS scale-up recently acquired by Cisco) on international expansion in London and San Francisco. She started her career at the Ministry of Economy in Slovakia, where she helped to design the concept of Smart Industry and the framework for innovative financial instruments.


Nima Kaz loves learning while helping communities of founders, early collaborators, social enterprises & investors find, fund & launch the future. Born in Iran, raised in Canada, and now residing in Brazil, Kaz is interested in projects that are spurring paradigm shifts & impactful change via data, energy, investing, crypto & blockchain ecosystems. He has served on the boards of the world’s 1st co-op for inventors, a community power NGO & an energy company (which he founded), among other mostly tech ventures. As ambassador of Seasteading.org & co-founder of OpenBrazil.org, he evangelizes progress towards the next frontiers for innovation. His latest project is an open lab for forward-thinkers to test their biggest ideas,  weaving a global community to connect entrepreneurs with established tech accelerators, incubators & investors. Kaz currently supports the next generation of founders via FI.co, GoACE.vc & JUPTER.co.


Russell Brand believes good engineering is solving important problems effectively rather than solving hard problems. He serves as entrepreneur-in-residence at Founder Institute, bringing a wealth of knowledge in the computer science and information systems space. He currently serves as an advisor for Eliaz Therapeutics, and Chief Curriculum Officer for Brainsprays.com, which allows preschool and school-age children to teach themselves much of K-12 math and vocabulary using Alexa lessons. Brand is also Founder and Managing Director of Responsible Solutions, which provides consulting services in Information Technologies (including computer security) and various areas of applied science in the management of large projects and data centers.
