Peerby, an Amsterdam Founder Institute Graduate, has recently launched a new paid-for service in Amsterdam, Peerby GO. This allows people to earn money by lending out their household items to others. The aim is to offer people a serious alternative to buying an item that they will only use for a short amount of time.
Peerby provides a website and app that allows you to borrow items from your neighbors quickly and easily. Beyond saving money, Peerby allows neighbors to connect and share. In a fast paced world, where connections are virtual, Peerby allows both connecting on a virtual and personal level with the people around you.
Peerby is portrayed as a frontrunner of the new sharing economy. It has expanded to 20 cities in Europe and is currently doing pilot projects in 10 U.S. cities. According to the New York Times, Peerby has processed more than 100,000 transactions, has more than $1 billion worth of items in its database and expects to have 500,000 members.
