CipherPoint, a company that provides data centric auditing and protection solutions for securing unstructured information in platforms, was recently acquired by Australia-based Covata, which provides data-level security solutions for enterprise, government and citizens to protect their sensitive information.
CipherPoint was launched in 2010, and currently has offices in Denver, Colorado, Austin, Texas, and San Diego, California. The company is also a Graduate of the Denver Founder Institute, and you can watch their early pitch at our Founder Showcase Pitch event in 2011 below.
Since its inception, CipherPoint has established itself as a leader in the field of data security, a reputation that was only bolstered when they released Eclipse for SharePoint Online and Office 365, which prevents privileged IT administrators and outside attackers from accessing sensitive information. The company’s software was also used for the healthcare industry, as it enabled organizations to identify, secure, and audit access to sensitive and regulated data stored in file servers and platforms.
Over the past several years, CipherPoint has gained considerable notoriety in the world of tech and innovation with their numerous milestones and accolades. In 2011, the company was selected as one of five most promising startup companies at the Rice Alliance IT and Web Ventures Forum annual event, and won the SINET 16 award as a top security startup in 2012. The following year, CipherPoint was selected to present at Venture Capital in the Rockies (VCIR), a leading showcase for technology companies in the Rocky Mountain Region.
With this recent acquisition, Covata has the potential to enhance its existing data security platform with CipherPoint’s acclaimed technology, and now has access to their extensive data discovery tools, protection of SharePoint files, and Microsoft integrations that will form part of Covata’s DSP.
