South Carolina has a fast growing startup ecosystem, and entrepreneurs here are lucky to have so many resources available to help them in their journey. However, many people don't know about all of the resources available, the differences between them, or what resources are right for them. At this online and interactive event, we will gather representatives from different entrepreneurial organizations, including SCRA, SC Competes and top local entrepreneurs, to outline the local resources and provide tips on how to build a startup in South Carolina.

Featured Speakers:

  • Lee Macilwinen - Director, SC Launch at SCRA -  An executive advisor and mentor to technology startups. Entrepreneur, investor, and startup ecosystem builder with over 20 years of experience as a sales executive for software companies worldwide. He worked with multiple startups in San Francisco, Boston, and New York City, driving growth and innovation. 
  • Jess O'brien - Executive Director at Beaufort Digital Corridor & Director at Founder Institute South Carolina -  A seasoned digital marketing leader with extensive experience managing agency teams and clients across SMBs and national franchises. Passionate about startups and tech talent, she serves as Executive Director of the Beaufort Digital Corridor, driving innovation and collaboration among public entities, universities, and economic development partners. As the nonprofit’s de facto CEO, she oversees operations, strategy, and growth, fostering creativity and technological advancement at local and national levels. 
  • Jamie Dement - Director of Technology & Cybersecurity Initiatives at SC Competes -  As the Director of Technology & Cyber Initiatives/SC Tech at SC Competes, Jamie is working to grow South Carolina’s technology and cyber sectors and drive innovation across industries. With a background in marketing strategy and technology, she has launched websites, expanded digital footprints, and built lasting relationships that support competitiveness strategies. Jamie is an Honorary Commander with NIWC, a Palmetto Goodwill Board Member, a Riley Fellow through Furman University, and a recipient of the 2023 CRBJ “Women of Influence” and 2019 Forty Under 40 awards.
