A Custom Accelerator Supporting 17 Energy Startups in the Heart of Africa's Oil and Gas Industry
NCDMB is a federal agency promoting the development of local content in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry. In 2023, together with the Founder Institute, it successfully ran a 7-month virtual accelerator through the Technology Incubation and Innovation Centre (TIIC). The program helped 17 early-stage energy startups grow their ideas into real products, with solutions ranging from pipeline safety to renewable energy and healthtech.

The Challenge

NCDMB set an ambitious goal under its "Project 100" initiative to incubate 100 indigenous companies within Nigeria's energy value chain. To achieve this, they established the Technology Incubation and Innovation Centre (TIIC). However, despite internal training efforts, scaling their startup pipeline proved difficult. NCDMB needed a capable, globally connected partner to deliver a structured accelerator experience and expand the pool of viable, innovation-driven startups.

The challenge was not only in scaling up but also in embedding the kind of practical entrepreneurship support needed to turn early-stage innovators into investable businesses. NCDMB needed the Founder Institute to bring world-class acceleration, structure, mentorship, and startup know-how to its initiative.

The Solution: NCDMB Energy Accelerator Program

With a shared vision for innovation, NCDMB and the Founder Institute developed a custom accelerator to empower Nigeria’s next generation of energy entrepreneurs.
