"In a few days, the Sydney cohort of the Founders Institute’s Spring 2013 program will graduate.  Amongst them will be Cashtivity –an education company which provides an innovative collaborative platform built entirely of apps to make it fun and easy for kids to learn how to build businesses.   Cashtivity is the world leader in providing experiential learning through apps. Today the company has announced the Australian Government has awarded it a prestigious Commercialisation Australia grant to help with its expansion into the US.

The Founder, Marissa Di Pasquale says: “We are stoked by the award. It gives us the opportunity to work with a group of innovators in San Francisco and bring Cashtivity to educators & kids around the world. The award is recognition that there is a huge demand for simple ways to help teachers and parents provide kids with hands on experience in business and financial matters.”

Education has now changed.  With it, is a recognition – in particular in the US, UK and Europe that entrepreneurship, business and financial literacy are core skills that all kids need to learn before they leave school. As Marissa says: “Learning business is now as important as learning English. ”

The Australian Government has mandated financial literacy in the National Curriculum. This will require students to experience how to build mini-businesses.

Cashtivity will be launching its digital Campus and its first global product – a Build a Business course – in early 2014. This follows extensive and rigorous pilot testing with students and teachers in Melbourne schools during 2013. It plans to release other education packages and courses to help with budgeting, goal setting, selling and business planning. The company has ambitions to develop a World Game. “ We want the game to connect kids around the world in a virtual marketplace where they will run businesses and participate in the world of work.” Marissa added: “We will want to  partner with the world’s best to help us build this game and bring it to market.”

The company has also announced it is raising its first round of seed funding."
