Female Founder Fellowship

The Female Founder Fellowship is awarded to the most extraordinary female applicant for each semester, giving them the opportunity to participate in the Founder Institute for free. The recipient will be recognized as a female with the utmost potential to become a successful technology entrepreneur.

The Founder Institute is committed to narrowing the gender gap in high tech startups. When we announced the Female Founder Fellowship program in 2011, only 16% of Founder Institute companies were founded by females. Since then, the results of this program have been astounding, as our overall number of female-founded companies has more than doubled, to a total of approximately 33%. This is more than twice as high as most other startup programs. Learn more about the Female Founder Fellowship program here

Eligibility: In order to be eligible for the Female Founder Fellowship for the upcoming semester, you must complete your application, be accepted to the program, and submit your payment by the Early Deadline listed on the top of this page. Any female who follows these guidelines will be automatically eligible - no further steps are required.

Grant: The Female Founder Fellowship is awarded to the most extraordinary female applicant for each semester. The recipient will be awarded and notified within 5 days after the Early Admissions Deadline, and they will receive a full refund on their Course Fee within 1 week of the program start date. All applicants will be notified via email when the Fellowships are awarded.

The Pursuit of True Wealth: How One Female Entrepreneur Balances Work and Motherhood

Posted by Jonathan Greechan on 2013-12-05

In this inspiring talk, Next Jump Co-Founder, Meghan Messenger, shares how she maintains a work-life balance while running a major New York e-commerce company. From her early days as a junior employee fresh out of college, Meghan helped CEO Charlie Kim grow Next Jump in to the rewards and loyalty programs company it is today.

When she became the mother to little boy with special needs, everything changed. Her priorities quickly shifted, which meant restructuring her life to meet the demands of her family and her job. Soon came baby number two, and more changes ensued. Meghan had to dig deep and figure out the best plan for herself and her family. She came to this realization: “I work hard to be my best self so that I can take care of others.”

Meghan’s story teaches us that with each new challenge comes growth. “Having kids made me realize how important work was for me,” she says. “Not pushing your comfort zone is like slowly dying.”

To conclude her talk, she leaves us with this quote from her mentor, Jim Loehr;

“High achievers give up everything to be good at one thing. This is not true.
They kill it at work, they kill it with their spouse, they kill it with their kids. They kill it in multiple areas. They have a balanced life.” - Jim Loehr

Meghan Messenger is a mentor for the New York Founder Institute, which is currently accepting applications for the upcoming Winter Semester. Those who apply by the early application deadline (Sunday, 2015-11-08), are eligible for Founder Institute Fellowships, including the Female Founder Fellowship - a scholarship awarded to the top female applicant in each semester.
