Founder Showcase Applications

2021-01-23: by Jonathan Greechan

The next Founder Showcase (FounderShowcase.com) will take place on February 10th from 5-8PM PT, and registrations are open at https://fi.co/startupwebinar/4451.

This event is a good opportunity for pre-seed FI Alumni and Enrolled Founders to pitch to a global audience, and ideally get exposure to potential angels/ micro-vcs, partners, employees, etc. In addition, the application process will allow you to get additional feedback on your pitch.

This event is best for companies with less than $250,000 USD in funding that have graduated within the last 2 years.

Applications are due by Sunday, January 17th at http://bit.ly/grad-pitch (UPDATE: Deadline has been extended to Tuesday, January 19th). Please read the details below before applying.

About the Event

The Founder Showcase is an event the Founder Institute launched in 2009 to showcase pre-seed startups. The event was run 16 times in person, and in 2020 the event was moved online in response to the global pandemic.

As a pre-seed event we strive to feature companies before anyone else, and from all across the globe. A short-list of companies that did one of their first public pitches on the Founder Showcase stage include UdemyRelay RidesThumbtackRealty MogulKaggle, and many more.

Each event is attended by several hundred attendees (a mix of investors, executives, entrepreneurs, aspiring entrepreneurs, and everything in between).

The pitch format is pre-recorded 3 minute video pitches + live Q&A, and each event also includes a Keynote Speaker (previous speakers to the in-person event include Elon Musk, Naval Ravikant, etc).

Application Process

Please read the below carefully. This process is designed to put you in a position to succeed.

To participate in this event, you will need to:

1. Be available to join the live event, from a quiet location with a webcam and fast internet (5 mbps+ upload, 15mbps+ download MINIMUM).

2. Submit an Online Pitch Video by the First Pitch Submission Deadline of January 17th at http://bit.ly/grad-pitch. Here are the video requirements:

Review & Feedback Process

After we receive your video we will review and circle back with feedback by EOD Friday, January 22.

Some of you may not be ready to participate in this event. Please understand that if we don't think you're ready, we are not going to put you in a position to fail. There will be future events where you can participate.

If it is clear you won’t be ready, we will let you know at this point. If you are ready (or close to ready), you will have the opportunity to submit a second video pitch for final review by Sunday, January 31st. We will then select the final companies to pitch on Monday February 1st, and (if necessary) provide any final feedback/ tweaks for those selected to improve their pitch video for broadcast on the event.

Selection Criteria

We recommend you watch pitch videos from the previous event at https://fi.co/insight/global-founder-showcase-december-2020.

We select pitches based on (in no specific order):

  1. Pitch Quality (clear pitch, compelling narrative, etc)
  2. Presentation Quality (deck design, speaker delivery, etc)
  3. Business Growth Potential and Fundability
  4. Adherence to our rules, deadlines, and feedback

Please note that while most of the companies that will pitch on the Founder Showcase will be Founder Institute Alumni, we do allow for a maximum of two non-Founder Institute companies to pitch on each event.
