Posted by Amity Sims on 2013-02-03

Seattle Founder Institute graduate and 12th Founder Showcase Finalist, Writer.ly, was recently featured in the GeekWire article “The Elance for publishing; Writer.ly offers marketplace for authors needing help”.

Co-founders Kelsye Nelson and Abigail Carter founded Writer.ly after having a discussion about the plethora of challenges writers face with thier local writing group. In their interview, Nelson explained to author, Taylor Soper, “We were talking about how if authors could simply get a little help, they’d go a lot farther in achieving their publishing goals”.

Writer.ly helps authors out by providing a platform where they can find jobs and get assistance publishing; essentially a marketplace for writers to post jobs and get bids from interested parties. In turn, the company takes 10 percent of the final fee.

Nelson explains it as, “Our simple, streamlined platform is easy for the non-tech crowd (as many writers are) to navigate,” she said. “When a writer comes to our site and searches for an editor, they don’t need to wade through technical editors and coders. Everything they see is specific to their industry.”

Writer.ly is a recently graduate of the Seattle Founder Institute and was a finalist at the 12th Founder Showcase. Although the team fell short to Spikes and SortBox, Kelsye Nelson delivered an impressive presentation and was a favorite amongst the audience and judges.
