Mexico City is primed for a program like the Founder Institute to help jumpstart the local startup ecosystem. There are several stakeholders interested in providing resources for startups, including for example, The Ministry of Economics, which just opened the Fondo de Capital Semilla (or "Seed Fund for Startups") where the government will match investments from some accelerators and venture investors. Earlier this week Dave McClure's 500 Startups also acquired Mexican.vc to tap the abundance of talent in the country’s growing trillion dollar economy.This is all part of a growing community of entrepreneurs that is working to transform the local Internet industry from one that merely provides low value-added services, to one that is innovation-based.
The Mexico City chapter will be led by Oscar Velázquez and Hernando Guzman. Oscar is the CEO of the Sustainability Accelerator in Mexico City, and the Founder of Jardin de Innovacion, both organizations dedicated to support sustainable entrepreneurs. Hernando is a startup veteran, currently the CEO of SinTrafico.com, the first real time traffic information platform in Mexico, and an Associate at Latin Idea Ventures, one of the leading Venture Capital Funds in Mexico.
Expected Mentors for the program include;
- Adeo Ressi, Founder of the Founder Institute;
- Carlos Mastretta, Co-Founder & CEO of Tecnoidea;
- Hernando Guzman, CEO of SinTrafico.com;
- Oscar Velazquez, CEO of the Sustainability Accelerator;
- And many more to be announced.
