The Founder Institute, the world's largest startup accelerator, is proud to announce that it is launching its first Canadian chapter in Montreal. The first ever semester in Montreal begins this Spring and is currently accepting applications. With plans to run two semesters annually, the program aims to launch over 25 meaningful and enduring home-grown technology companies per year in Canada.

The news of the Montreal Founder Institute launch was covered by Rob Lewis of Techvibes in an article titled, World's Largest Startup Accelerator Launches First Canadian Chapter in Montreal, and by Joe Czikk of BetaKit in an article titled Silicon Valley's The Founder Institute to Launch Montreal Chapter.

In the Founder Institute's four-month, part-time program, promising startup entrepreneurs “learn by doing” and launch a company through structured training courses, practical business-building assignments, and expert feedback from a large network of business mentors. Plus, aspiring founders are not required to quit their day job to participate, so they can begin building a business around their ideas without putting their livelihood at risk.

Leading the Founder Institute’s efforts in Montreal are L-P. Maurice, CEO and co-founder of Busbud, a successful startup focused on intercity bus travel, who has previously worked with Yahoo and Linkedin in Silicon Valley; and Sergio A. Escobar, Global Facilitator for Startup Weekend and NEXT, who is a former entrepreneur who launched startups in the e-commerce and mobile payment sectors and also previously managed the hybrid-accelerator Angel Investors Challenge with “Anges Québec”.

The Montreal startup ecosystem is positioning itself firmly on the global map and the city has shown one more time that it is an economic and cultural key player in Canada. Founder Institute is the logical evolution after the success of Startup Weekend editions in Montreal. The demand we have seen for the Founder Institute in Montreal tells us that many people want to launch technology companies in the city.” -Sergio A. Escobar
