Udemy, one of the largest online learning platforms has recently taken its courses mobile, allowing students to learn on the go. Since launching in 2010, the San Francisco based startup has grown at an exponential rate, boasting nearly 600,000 users to date.

After a successful launch of their iPad application back in November, Udemy’s 6,000 courses are now available on all iOS platforms, allowing students to take classes anytime, anywhere. With the new app, users can browse and sign up for free and paid courses, and view videos and presentations, all on their smartphones. Additionally, users can save courses for offline viewing, as well as watch videos at accelerated speeds. While the app has yet to integrate the website's peer-to-peer social interaction, the development team says this feature will be available in months to come. They also noted plans for Android as well, so keep an eye out for additional apps and features later this year. .

Dinesh Thiru, Udemy’s vice president of marketing, noted that a large percentage of users are busy professionals interested in advancing their careers. “They know learning is important, but they struggle to find the time,” he said. “We built the Udemy iPhone app to help them find that time… to enable them to learn whenever and wherever they find those extra fifteen minutes.”

The release of the app was covered by Rip Empson of TechCrunch and Ki Mae Heussner of GigaOm. For more information, check out their coverage and to sign up for a Udemy course yourself, click here to start browsing.
