At the Founder Institute, one of our core values is to not shy away from big challenges. Our challenge, and our mission, is to empower talented and motivated people to build impactful companies that create one million jobs. This includes talented and motivated people of all backgrounds.

Much has been written about the lack of women in leadership positions across Silicon Valley startups, but when you operate across six continents and 60 countries like we do, you see that the issue worldwide is far worse than is being reported.

Since launching in 2009, we are proud to have graduated over 600 female-led companies through the Founder Institute program, but this number still represents less than 30% of our total. There is still much more work left to do.

We will be sharing some exciting news over the next few weeks aimed at increasing the number of female-founded companies worldwide, and in the meantime we have prepared a "Founder Institute Female Founder Impact Report" below that outlines some the progress we have made (but more importantly highlights some of the amazing female founders we've had the pleasure of working with).

There are also a couple of ways you can get involved with this initiative:

  • If you are an aspiring or early-stage entrepreneur, you can apply to the Girls in Tech Fellowship at FI.co/FFF. The Founder Institute's part-time program provides expert mentorship, a step-by-step process, and a global network to help you launch an enduring company.
  • If you are an experienced Founder or CEO and would like to advise and coach promising entrepreneurs, then apply to be a Founder Institute Mentor at http://fi.co/mentor. It is a rewarding experience, and you will join the likes of mentors like Phil Libin, Jason Calacanis, Gina Bianchini, and more.
